Stop Smoking Benefit - Why Exactly Should You Stop Smoking?

by David Smythe
Getting a wonderful healthy life is the first stop smoking benefit. It is not only the bodily health that improves when you give up smoking, your mind is enriched also. The habit of smoking can prove to be a great danger in the longer run if not kept under check. A large number of smokers die each year because of the diseases compounded or caused by the habit of smoking. The list of diseases includes emphysema, lung cancer, bronchitis and a variety of other respiratory and pulmonary disorders. It also has a great probability of raising the risk of strokes. Smoking can also aggravate the asthma condition in people suffering from it. These are the most common ailments caused by smoking. However, there is a host of many other diseases which also have smoking as the root cause. It includes ailments such as gum diseases, cataracts and thinning of bones; these facts were previously not linked to smoking. The most obvious and positive effect of stopping to smoke is that the health improves on the whole and the person lives for longer. But on the other side, if smoking habit is continued then there are a number of ways and reasons for the smoker’s life turning into hell. The most addictive component of the cigarette is nicotine. Nicotine is like a narcotic drug, which can cause the brain receptors to develop a craving for it. The more nicotine you take inside your body, the more craving you will feel for it. This is actually the reason why smokers find it difficult to give up their habit in the first place. Their brain does not allow them. And with the nicotine in its receptors, the brain will slowly wear out and get damaged. The idea that smoking can help a person stay away from depression is not true as the fact is that it causes depression rather than being an antidepressant. Depression is the major problem which arises as soon as the receptors of the brain stop functioning properly. In addition to this, the frustration because of the obsession can also end up in causing depression to the individual. Depression may also arise when individuals try hard to quit the habit unsuccessfully. This is the major reason why doctors prescribe antidepressants to people who are trying to kick the cigarette butt. Besides the physical harms, psychological problems can occur too. Excessive smoking leads to the person hallucinating or having vivid dreams and delusions. This effect is reduced to a great extent among people who have used the smoking patch. But in cases where the person has been smoking too much for too long the chances of having psychological problems that cannot be undone is very high. The decision you make is your choice whether to live a life that is healthy and keeps both your body and mind fit or a life which is difficult to you as well as people with you. It absolutely lies in your hands to choose the best option and to decide whether you want to enjoy the benefits of a smoke free life.
