Create Space In Your Small Kitchen

by William Scott
Do you have a small kitchen? Do you feel stifled? Cramped for space? Frustrated? Having a small kitchen does not have to be an inconvenience. There are many things that you can do when remodeling your kitchen to maximize the space that you do have. You can open up space that you never even new existed! Maximize Your Kitchen Space The most important thing to do when remodeling your kitchen is to make the most of the space that is available to you. The first step is to ensure that you have enough storage space for all your kitchen necessities. In a crowded kitchen, finding room for storage is very important because otherwise you’ll end up with items sitting out on the counter tops, and these will add to your feeling of a small and crowded kitchen. So, the first thing that you should do is maximize the storage space. Making More Room To create more space in a small kitchen you need to be creative. Why not install floor to ceiling kitchen cupboards? Of course, this will require a small stepladder or foot stool, but it can be very effective. Make sure that the top shelves are used for items that are not used often, while the bottom, easily accessible shelves are used for items that are used most frequently. To maximize your under counter storage space you can fit rotating cupboard shelves on the corners of any kitchen fitting. Make sure that no space is wasted or inaccessible. Once you have created sufficient storage space for your kitchen must haves, the next step is to create more space for yourself in your working area. If you have a center island in your kitchen, remove it and install wider counter tops. This will provide you with enough counter space to work with, and also provide you with enough room to move around your kitchen whilst working. It also creates a more open impression for your kitchen. Always keep in mind though that while you are creating more work space for yourself you should never remove any of your storage space. This will be very counter productive. Make More Space For small kitchens, the small details will help you have more space, or at least feel like you do. Choose smaller kitchen rugs, which will make the overall area look bigger. Also, see if you can hang your lights higher up towards the ceiling, which will also make your room look more open. Be sure to buy appropriate furniture for your remodeled kitchen. Instead of buying a kitchen table, rather install a kitchen counter with stools or high chairs that can be moved under the kitchen counter when they are not being used. This can be a huge space saver! Remember that a small kitchen can seem like a big pain when you’re starting out on your remodeling project. However, with a few simple tricks, and a few small details, you can make your kitchen feel and appear bigger and more open.
