Are you cracking your brains over small bathroom remodeling? You are not alone. Many homeowners are faced wit the problem of having to change the look of a cramped bathroom. Here are some tips on how to make the most of small bath spaces.

Remove Barriers If You Can

The most straightforward advice is to simply remove walls and expand. The question is whether you really have the energy and time to deal with all the work involved in major remodeling. Aside from building new walls, you also need new plumbing On top of all these, the expense of having to knock down walls is quite big.

Choose Small

Removing a wall may not be practical or feasible. If this is the case, then you have to stick with what you can work on at the moment. You might not have noticed but you may have large bathroom fixtures that contribute to making the space seem more cramped. Replace any of the fixtures that are extra large in size with smaller ones. Just make sure that you can fit comfortably in a smaller tub or toilet.

Choose Free Floating

You may have storage spaces beneath sinks, vanities and anywhere else on the floor. These can further limit the space you can move around on. Do away with the storage areas on the floor. You may instead opt for free floating ones. These include small overhead cabinets, metal racks and hampers that can hang on hooks. Your sink can also be free floating so you can save floor space.

Use Light Colors on Everything

Small bathroom remodeling always means changing the colors too. If you have to repaint and change tiles, always choose those that are light colored. The dark ones will create the illusion that you are in a small area. Light ones on the other hand can make the room expand. In addition, light colors are also definitely more relaxing. Designs on tiles and walls should be small.

Invite the Light In

Aside from light colors, light itself can also improve the appearance of your bathroom. You won’t just be able to make bathroom features seem clearer and more inviting. More light can also contribute to the perception of more space. It would be a great idea if you can invite more light in with a large window on top of one wall.

Use Mirrors

Mirrors are also great additions to your bathroom. If you put them in the right places, you can create the perception that the bathroom is spacious. Do avoid though, putting large mirrors with intricate border designs. These can make your small bathroom look funny.

Set Fixtures to the Wall

Make sure that your fixtures are all hugging the walls. This is especially true for your toilet and bath tub. Set these fixtures very close to the walls so you have more free space at the center. As for your sink, you actually have more options here. You can pick corner sinks or corner wall sinks.

Small bathroom remodeling can actually be a lot of fun. The real key is to simply change viewer perspective and utilize every available space you have.
