I am a firm believer in continued education. This includes the Internet Marketing field BUT do you really need a coach or a mentor?
Most likely a coaching program or mentorship will help you but from personal experience I can tell you that you need to get in to the right type of program to significantly increase your income. I have been involved in a lot of coaching programs and some worked better then others for me but overall I have brought in a lot more then I spent.
I won’t be telling you which ones worked the best for me out because the ones that didn’t work for me worked for other people. Whether it will work for you depends on you.
* What your expectations are and what level you are at.
* Your relationship with your coach.
* How much you work at it.
* And believe it or not how much you BELIEVE in the program will make a big difference.
Your Expectations - Your expectations must match your level of knowledge. You can’t go into an advanced coaching program, not knowing anything, and expect to be profiting next week. Your coaching program needs to reflect your level of experience and move you on to the next level.
If you are just starting out you will need a coaching program that will teach you all the basic strategies that you will need to get started. These will be things like outsourcing, getting a website up and running, product creation, lead generation, traffic and the list goes on.
For the beginner you should look for a low cost program that lasts a long enough period of time for you to learn the information and to take action on what you have learned while you are in the coaching program, 3 to 6 months is good for this. The reason you must take action before the program is over is because if you have problems you want to be able to contact the coach to get an answer.
Relating to Your Coach - Before you join any coaching program check out the person or people running it, sign up to their list(s), read their blog(s) and review their products and sites. Make sure that your prospective coach is some one that you can relate to, by this is should be someone that you respect, admire, has the same ethical view point as you and is further along in the process then you are.
You don’t necessarily need a “Guru†as a coach but you do need someone that is at least a little farther down the road then you are. Most of the time you can actually relate to a person that is closer to where you are then with a person all the way at the top of the marketing food chain.
How Much You Work At It - That’s right I said that dirty four letter word, “Work†there is no magic button that will take you from nothing to rich, you have to put in the time and effort to succeed at anything.
You should have some projects assigned by your coach through the program. Don’t skimp on the effort you put into the projects. If you just do the minimum necessary to finish the project you will only get the minimum out of the coaching program. Do the projects and do them again until you understand the purpose of the project as well as you coach does. Maybe even better.
Believe - In anything you do your mindset will usually be the deciding factor that makes the difference between success and failure. The more you believe you can do something the better your chances of achieving it.
For example if your expectations are to make an extra $1,000 per month because of this coaching program you have to have a mindset where you BELIEVE you will be making that at the end of the program. If you don’t believe you won’t put as much effort into it and the more effort you put in the better your results will be.
Some of your expectations will be set by the copy for the coaching program. Whether you hear this verbally at a seminar of if you read the copy on the page you need to truly believe what it is telling you. If you read and have any doubts at all that program is probably not for you.
